Updated 20 October 2026. We re-read the Deccan Herald reports on the inspection, the compliance filing and the underground section, and the latest statement from BMRCL's managing director. This page goes further than the trackers that rank today: it lists every station in order with its status, interchange and planned feeder bus, sets out the two official dates BMRCL has given for the underground section, and names the localities and homes near each stretch.

Which stretch opens first, and when
The elevated stretch opens first. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (Southern Circle) finished a three-day statutory inspection of the 7.5 km Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere section on 8 October 2026 (Deccan Herald, 9 October 2026). Before that, BMRCL had the RDSO speed certificate (August 2026), the Railway Board's provisional sanction for the trains and an independent safety certificate for signalling (same report).
The inspection raised 36 observations covering fire safety, lifts, earthing and train testing. BMRCL submitted compliance on 15 October, and sources expected the CMRS authorisation within a day or two. Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has written to the Prime Minister's Office seeking an inauguration date; a reply was awaited (Deccan Herald, 16 October 2026). Until the authorisation and an inauguration date are announced, there is no official opening date.
When it opens, the network grows from 96.1 km to 103.6 km (Deccan Herald, 12 October 2026).
When will the underground section open? Two official dates
BMRCL has given two targets in October, so we show both. On 5 October, BMRCL's chief public relations officer said: 'We aim to open the line by March 2027' (Deccan Herald, 5 October 2026). On 17–19 October, BMRCL managing director PC Jaffer gave a target of May 2027 for both the underground Pink Line and the ORR Blue Line, subject to testing and safety clearances (Oneindia, citing Moneycontrol, 19 October 2026; Urban Acres, 17 October 2026). The MD's statement is the more recent one, so we treat May 2027 as the current official target.
Progress so far: tunnelling finished in October 2024 and track-laying in May 2026. The 750 V third rail is energised at eight stations from Dairy Circle to Pottery Town, including MG Road, and trial runs are likely in November–December 2026 (Deccan Herald, 5 October 2026). The MD said trains could run underground to Shivajinagar on trial by late October or November, and BEML has delivered 11 Pink Line trainsets (Oneindia, 19 October 2026). These will be Bengaluru's first stations with platform screen doors (Deccan Herald, 5 October 2026).
Some unofficial trackers still say January 2027. We have not found a BMRCL statement giving that date.
Timings, frequency and feeder buses
- Trains: up to six on the elevated line at first (Deccan Herald, 16 October 2026).
- Frequency: every 6 minutes at peak hours and every 10 minutes off-peak (same report).
- Daily timings: BMRCL has not published first and last train times for the Pink Line yet. Other Namma Metro lines publish theirs on the BMRCL website; check there at opening.
- Feeder buses: BMTC will run five dedicated routes — MF-18J, MF-18JT, MF-18JP, MF-22HS and MF-18T — with 30 buses making 415 trips a day at 10-minute intervals (Deccan Herald, 12 October 2026).
- Depot: Kothanur (Deccan Herald, 9 October 2026).
What the line cost, and why it took this long
The Pink Line's cost has been revised to ₹17,346 crore from the ₹8,730 crore in its detailed project report. The underground section alone is ₹13,876 crore, or about ₹1,008 crore per km. The original plan targeted completion by March 2016; construction began in 2020 (Deccan Herald, 19 October 2026). The elevated civil work was re-tendered in 2021.
What it means for homes near the line
On the elevated stretch, the localities are Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, Arekere, Bilekahalli, JP Nagar, BTM Layout's southern edge and the area around Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere (Swagath Cross Road). A home within about 800 m to 1 km of a station is roughly a 10–12 minute walk; beyond that, the feeder routes above matter more than the line itself. Jayadeva is the most useful station for daily commutes because it connects to the Yellow Line towards Electronic City and to RV Road.
On the underground stretch, the line serves the central and northern neighbourhoods: Langford Town, Richmond Town, MG Road, Shivajinagar, Cox Town, Frazer Town, Tannery Road and Nagawara. Here the change is mainly a faster north–south trip across the centre once the section opens.
One civic point to check: the road under the upcoming Hulimavu station flooded knee-deep again on 18 October because of a drain problem near Arakere Lake (Deccan Herald, 19 October 2026). If you are looking at homes near Hulimavu, visit after rain and ask the local corporation about drain work.
We make no forecast about prices. A station changes daily travel time; what that is worth to you depends on where you work.
