Updated 23 October 2026. Twelve days after the opening, and on the day trains start at 6 am, we re-checked what has been announced on buses and parking for each of the 11 open stations, and what commuters have asked for. This is the last-mile layer that our corridor guides only touched: Chennai Metro Poonamallee–Vadapalani Line Is Open: Timings, 11 Stations, Fares & Property Impact (2026)

Bus trips at each Yellow Line station

MTC's count of bus trips serving each station, as reported by DT Next on 9 October 2026, west to east:

  • Poonamallee Bypass: 1,793
  • Poonamallee Bus Terminus: 5,155
  • Poonamallee Government Hospital: 4,423
  • Karayanchavadi: 4,423
  • Kumananchavadi: 3,766
  • Kattupakkam: 1,737
  • Iyyappanthangal: 2,522
  • Telliyagaram (Thelliyaragaram): 2,711
  • Porur Bypass: 2,639
  • Porur: 3,320
  • Vadapalani: 1,130

What has MTC promised on feeder buses?

  • MTC managing director V.P. Jayaseelan said MTC will explore ways to strengthen feeder services along the corridor, with CMRL (DT Next, 9 October 2026).
  • Bus-stop locations have been marked at each metro station so riders can find them.
  • MTC and CMRL will jointly assess new services based on passenger feedback, and consider dedicated bus stops at individual stations.
  • What is not announced: route numbers, new feeder routes, start dates or costs. Treat 'feeder bus coming' in a brochure as unconfirmed until MTC lists a route.

Where is parking a problem?

Before the opening, commuters said the parking at the Porur station was smaller than demand, and CMRL had not earmarked parking for the Phase II Vadapalani station. A CMRL official said: 'As per the demands, the parking spaces will be increased and allotted', adding that this would be assessed after commercial operations began (DT Next, 28 July 2026).

After the opening, a Porur commuter asked for more parking at Vadapalani and other stations, including multi-level parking (DT Next, 12 October 2026). We found no CMRL announcement since then with station-wise parking numbers. Wikipedia's Poonamallee Bypass station page lists parking as 'none' (accessed 23 October 2026); we could not confirm that with CMRL.

What else have commuters asked for?

  • A 6 am start: granted from 23 October 2026 (DT Next, 21 October 2026).
  • An 11 pm last train, and Phase 1-style 5 am to 11 pm hours: requested, not announced (Metro Rail News, 22 October 2026).
  • Peak gaps of 6–7 minutes instead of 10: requested, not announced (Metro Rail News, 22 October 2026).
  • Faster exits: a Porur commuter reported queues at exit gates on the first day as new riders struggled with cards and tickets (DT Next, 12 October 2026).
  • A Kattupakkam commuter reported crowded trains on day one, with children and older passengers struggling for seats (DT Next, 12 October 2026).

Which stations work best without a car?

What the last mile means for a home buyer

A metro station only adds value to a home if the household can reach it every day. Before you pay more for 'near metro', check three things on the ground:
