Updated 23 October 2026. 'Porur metro opening date' is still one of the most-searched Chennai metro queries, mostly answered by pages written before the opening. We re-checked the timetable, MTC's bus-trip counts for each Porur station, the parking position and the targets for the stations east of Porur Junction.

Which are the Porur metro stations?

Station order west to east: Iyyappanthangal, Thelliyaragaram, Porur Bypass, Porur Junction, then Vadapalani (DT Next, 12 October 2026).

  • Thelliyaragaram: the stop for Sri Ramachandra Medical College, per Wikipedia's Yellow Line station table (accessed 23 October 2026). Island platform. MTC counts 2,711 bus trips serving it (DT Next, 9 October 2026; MTC spells it 'Telliyagaram').
  • Porur Bypass: on the Chennai Bypass (NH 32) per the same table. Island platform. 2,639 bus trips. It was slated to be the first station on the stretch to get its escalators (DT Next, 1 March 2025).
  • Porur Junction: the hub stop, with side platforms; Wikipedia's station page shows it beside Arcot Road near the MGR flyover. MTC's 'Porur' entry, 3,320 bus trips, is the highest of the three (DT Next, 9 October 2026).

Porur metro timings and frequency

  • Monday–Saturday, 8–11 am and 5–8 pm: every 10 minutes.
  • At other times, and on Sundays and holidays: every 15 minutes.
  • Requested but not announced: 6–7 minute peak gaps and an 11 pm last train (Metro Rail News, 22 October 2026).
  • Fare from Poonamallee Bypass to the Porur stations: ₹30; to Vadapalani ₹40 (DT Next, 29 September 2026).

Porur to Vadapalani: when do the stations in between open?

Not yet, and there is no CMRL date. Trains run from Porur Junction to Vadapalani without stopping at Alapakkam, Karambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alwarthirunagar, Virugambakkam South and Saligramam. Wikipedia's station table shows a March 2027 target for most of them, but we found no CMRL announcement confirming it. Four are double-decker stations shared with Corridor 5. Our full note on these stations: Why Valasaravakkam, Saligramam and Four Other Metro Stations Are Skipped on the Poonamallee–Vadapalani Line (2026)

A Mangadu commuter told DT Next on 12 October 2026 that travel times would improve further once construction around Karambakkam, Alapakkam, Valasaravakkam and Saligramam is finished.

Is there parking at Porur metro?

Some, but probably not enough. Before the opening, commuters told DT Next that the parking at the Porur station was too small for the demand, and a CMRL official said parking would be increased 'as per the demands' after operations began (DT Next, 28 July 2026). After the opening, a Porur resident asked for more parking at Vadapalani and other stations, including multi-level parking, and reported queues at the exit gates as first-time riders struggled with cards and tickets (DT Next, 12 October 2026).

For a Porur buyer, this means a home you can walk or bus from is worth more than one where the plan depends on parking at the station.
