Kovilambakkam is a residential locality in south Chennai on the Pallavaram–Thoraipakkam Radial Road, between Keelkattalai and Medavakkam. It suits buyers who want a quieter, newer neighbourhood with road links to both GST Road and OMR. It has a planned Phase 2 metro station, and our catalogue lists one project there, priced ₹0.90 to 1.69 crore.
Updated 10 October 2026. Drive times below were measured by Property Point on the Ola Maps distance matrix; the project figures are Property Point listing data (developer information, indicative, October 2026).
Where exactly is Kovilambakkam?
Wikipedia places Kovilambakkam along the 200-feet Pallavaram–Thoraipakkam Radial Road, with Pallavaram, Keelkattalai, Velachery, Pallikaranai, Medavakkam and Nanmangalam around it. Its PIN code is 600129. The Radial Road is about 10.5 km long and links GST Road at Pallavaram, via the Pallavaram flyover, to Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR) at Thoraipakkam, which is why Kovilambakkam is often described as sitting between the two corridors.
Administratively it is unusual. Wikipedia notes that Kovilambakkam is run by a village panchayat under the St. Thomas Mount Panchayat Union, with parts falling in Tambaram taluk (Chengalpattu district) and parts in Sholinganallur taluk (Chennai district). The 2011 census recorded 27,374 residents. For a buyer, the split matters mainly at the paperwork stage, covered below.
How long does it take to reach the airport, Guindy and OMR?

- Chennai International Airport: 11.4 km, 21 minutes.
- Guindy railway station: 9.7 km, 19 minutes.
- Tambaram railway station: 11.5 km, 22 minutes.
- Sholinganallur junction (OMR): 10.8 km, 24 minutes.
Is there a metro station at Kovilambakkam?
One is under construction. Kovilambakkam is one of 11 elevated stations in package C5-ECV-03 (Puzhuthivakkam to Sholinganallur) of Chennai Metro Phase 2's Corridor 5, the Madhavaram to Sholinganallur line. The package's stations are Madipakkam, Kilkattalai, Echangadu, Kovilambakkam, Vellakkal, Medavakkam Koot Road, Kamaraj Garden Street, Medavakkam Junction, Perumbakkam, Global Hospital and Elcot, per The Metro Rail Guy's report on the contractor's work.
We have not found a firm opening date for this southern stretch. Construction World reported in September 2026 that the Koyambedu to Alandur section is unlikely to open before 2027, and the Puzhuthivakkam to Sholinganallur section follows on the same line. Treat the station as a future benefit, not a reason to pay a premium today. Wider context: Chennai Metro Poonamallee–Vadapalani Line Is Open: Timings, 11 Stations, Fares & Property Impact (2026)

Schools, hospitals and daily needs
We have not independently verified individual schools or hospitals within Kovilambakkam, so we do not list them here. The established Medavakkam, Velachery and Pallikaranai markets are close by road, and the Radial Road carries a range of hospitals and retail. Visit at school-run hours, and check the distance from your shortlisted tower to the schools you actually want, rather than relying on a brochure's list.
What to check before you buy here
- RERA: confirm the project's registration on the Tamil Nadu RERA portal (rera.tn.gov.in) and compare the promoter, completion date and tower count with the brochure.
- Approvals: ask which authority granted planning permission and which local body issued the building permit, since parts of the locality fall under different taluks. A property lawyer can confirm this from the documents.
- Land records: check the patta and the encumbrance certificate on tnreginet.gov.in. Explained: Patta Chitta Online: Check, Transfer, Fees, TSLR, DTCP & CMDA (Chennai 2026)
- Water and drainage: ask residents of nearby completed buildings how the street fared in the last heavy monsoon, and ask the developer about water supply arrangements.
Who does Kovilambakkam suit?
- Households split between the airport or Guindy side and the OMR side: our measured drives to the airport, Guindy and Sholinganallur junction all fell between 19 and 24 minutes in light traffic, so neither partner faces an extreme commute.
- Buyers who want a new-build 2 or 3 BHK in south Chennai below about ₹1.7 crore, and who are comfortable waiting for an under-construction handover listed for June 2027.
- Longer-horizon owners who value the planned Corridor 5 station but do not need it on day one.
- It suits less well those who need suburban rail at the doorstep; Tambaram and Guindy stations are both a drive away.
