Where the two disagree (Indiranagar, Banaswadi, Mathikere, Sadashivanagar), we say so. Corporation elections are due by 31 December 2026 (Wikipedia, 2026 Greater Bengaluru Authority elections), so these names will appear on your tax and khata papers more often from now on.

How are Bangalore's zones defined now?

  • Bengaluru Central City Corporation: 63 wards, about 78 sq km, headquartered at Hudson Circle (Deccan Herald, 20 November 2025; Wikipedia).
  • Bengaluru North City Corporation: 72 wards, about 158 sq km, headquartered at Yelahanka (Deccan Herald; Wikipedia).
  • Bengaluru South City Corporation: 72 wards, about 147 sq km, headquartered at Jayanagar (Deccan Herald; Wikipedia).
  • Bengaluru East City Corporation: 50 wards, about 168 sq km, headquartered at Mahadevapura (Deccan Herald; Wikipedia).
  • Bengaluru West City Corporation: the largest by wards at 112 (Deccan Herald lists 112; Wikipedia's table also shows 112), about 161 sq km, headquartered at Rajarajeshwari Nagar (Wikipedia).
  • The five together cover the old BBMP area; the outer boundary did not change, it was only split into smaller wards (Deccan Herald, 20 November 2025).

North Bangalore areas

Wards listed under the North City Corporation include Yelahanka Satellite Town, Kogilu, Jakkur, Thanisandra, Hennur, Banaswadi, Kalyan Nagar, HBR Layout, Kammanahalli, RT Nagar, Ganganagar, Hebbal, Kodigehalli, Amruthahalli, Vidyaranyapura, Byatarayanapura, Jalahalli, Yeshwanthpura, Bagalagunte and Dasarahalli (Wikipedia ward table).

Beyond the corporation boundary, the airport belt — Bagalur, Devanahalli, Budigere-side and Doddaballapur Road — is also called North Bangalore in the market, but it is not in any GBA ward list. South Bangalore areas

BTM Layout sits in this belt between Hosur Road and Bannerghatta Road; its neighbouring wards Madiwala, Lakkasandra and Adugodi are all in the South corporation list. Kanakapura Road and Bannerghatta Road beyond the NICE Road are South in market terms. Old Madras Road beyond KR Puram, Budigere Cross, Hoskote, Panathur-Gunjur and the far end of Sarjapur Road are East in market usage but outside the five corporations, apart from wards such as Varthur. Wards under the West City Corporation include Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar, Basaveshwara Nagar, Nagarbhavi, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Kengeri, Peenya, Laggere, Nandini Layout, Mathikere, Sadashiva Nagar, Hampi Nagar and Chikkalasandra (Wikipedia ward table).

So Basaveshwara Nagar is West, not North or South. Mathikere and Sadashiva Nagar are often described as North, but their wards sit in the West corporation. Quick answers: is it north, south, east or west?

  • BTM Layout: South (South corporation belt, next to Madiwala and Lakkasandra wards).
  • Hebbal: North (Hebbal ward, North corporation).
  • Basaveshwara Nagar: West (Basaveshwara Nagara ward, West corporation).
  • Attibele: South-east, on Hosur Road at the Tamil Nadu border in Anekal taluk; not in any GBA ward list. Homes: Attibele, Bangalore.

  • Koramangala: South-east in market usage; adjoining Adugodi and Chikka Adugodi wards are in the South corporation.
  • Indiranagar: East in listings, Central corporation on paper.
  • Banaswadi and Kammanahalli: often called East, but both wards are in the North corporation.
  • Yeshwanthpur: North-west; Yeshwanthpura ward is in the North corporation.
  • Sarjapur Road and Sarjapur town: South-east/East; most of the corridor past Dommasandra is outside GBA.
  • Hosa Road: South-east, off Hosur Road near Kudlu and Singasandra wards (South corporation).

Why the zone matters when you buy
