Updated 23 October 2026. We checked the GBA ward lists, the township's governance as described on Wikipedia and ELCITA's site, the Yellow Line's status, and this quarter's portal rates. This explainer answers the common questions in one place; our investment view is separate: Is Electronic City Good for Investment? 2026 Data.
Is Electronic City north or south Bangalore?
South, more precisely south-east. It sits on Hosur Road between Bommanahalli and Bommasandra, and listing portals file it under South Bangalore. Wikipedia places it in Anekal taluk with PIN codes 560100, 560099 and 562107 (Wikipedia, Electronic City). Attibele and Chandapura, further down Hosur Road towards Hosur, are the same south-east belt.
Does Electronic City come under GBA (formerly BBMP)?
No. The Greater Bengaluru Authority's five corporations cover the old BBMP area of about 712 sq km, divided into 369 wards (Deccan Herald, 20 November 2025; Wikipedia). Electronic City, Konappana Agrahara and Doddathogur do not appear in any of the five corporations' ward lists. The nearest GBA wards on Hosur Road are Singasandra and Bommanahalli in the South corporation.
Within Electronic City, the Urban Development Department notified Phases I, II and III as the E-City Industrial Township Area on 18 March 2013, and the township is maintained by the Electronics City Industrial Township Authority (ELCITA) (Wikipedia, Electronic City). Wikipedia names Doddathoguru Town Panchayat and Konappana Agrahara Town Municipal Council as the bodies collecting taxes in the surrounding residential areas; check your property's actual khata authority, as local-body arrangements can change.
What are Electronic City Phase 1, 2 and 3?
KEONICS established Electronic City in 1978 on land in Konappana Agrahara and Doddathogur villages; it now spans about 800 acres in phases, with roughly 200 IT and ITES campuses including Infosys, Wipro, TCS, HCL, Tech Mahindra and Biocon (Wikipedia, Electronic City). In property listings, 'Phase 1' and 'Phase 2' are used loosely for the residential neighbourhoods around each industrial phase, and 'Electronic City' often stretches to Hosa Road, Huskur Road, Hebbagodi and Chandapura. Check the actual village and survey number on the sale deed, not the project brochure's address.
