Short answer: KR Puram (Krishnarajapuram) is east Bengaluru's transport junction, where Old Madras Road meets the Outer Ring Road, with an open Purple Line metro station beside Krishnarajapuram railway station (Wikipedia, accessed 20 October 2026). It is a sensible base for people working in Whitefield or along the ORR, and Square Yards showed an average asking price of ₹11,450 per sq ft for apartments in October 2026 (Square Yards, listings updated 15 October 2026). The trade-offs are junction traffic and waterlogging on some roads in heavy rain.
Is KR Puram a good place to live?
It is a good place to live if connectivity matters more to you than quiet. KR Puram is the headquarters of Bengaluru East taluk and falls under the Bengaluru East City Corporation (Wikipedia; Deccan Herald, 2 October 2025), so the answer to the common search 'is KR Puram Bangalore East' is yes. The area has grown around its crossroads: the cable-stayed bridge over the Old Madras Road–ORR junction opened in 2003, and the railway station sits on the Bengaluru–Chennai line (Wikipedia, accessed 20 October 2026).
Away from the junction, the neighbourhood is older and more residential than its traffic suggests. Vengayyana Lake sits in the centre of the area and the Kote Venkateshwara Swamy temple is a historic landmark (Wikipedia, accessed 20 October 2026). Housing is mostly apartments, at 70% of MagicBricks sale listings, with 3 BHK the most listed size at 42% (MagicBricks, accessed 20 October 2026). NoBroker notes that demand comes largely from IT staff working on the ORR and in Whitefield (NoBroker, accessed 20 October 2026).
The experience varies a great deal by pocket. A flat a short walk from the metro and railway station will feel very different from one in an older lane near the tracks, and the PIN code alone will not tell you which. KR Puram spans 560016, 560036, 560049 and 560067 (NoBroker, accessed 20 October 2026).
Is KR Puram a good place to invest?
We do not make price predictions. Three facts are worth weighing. KR Puram will become an interchange between the open Purple Line and the Blue Line, whose ORR section to Silk Board BMRCL has targeted for May 2027 after trial runs from November 2026 (NativePlanet, 16 October 2026). The planned Yeshwantpur–Tin Factory tolled elevated corridor, which ends at Tin Factory Junction in KR Puram, went to tender in August 2026 at an estimated ₹3,536.89 crore (Deccan Herald, 19 August 2026); a tender is an early stage, not a construction start.
On rents, Square Yards showed an average asking rent of ₹35 per sq ft a month for apartments (listings updated 17 October 2026). Against its ₹11,450 asking price, that is about 3.7% gross by our arithmetic, before vacancy and maintenance. Price ranges differ widely by portal: MagicBricks gives ₹6,400 to ₹10,800 per sq ft and NoBroker ₹6,600 to ₹12,150 (both accessed 20 October 2026), which reflects the mix of older resale stock and newer gated projects.
Getting around: metro, rail and roads
KR Puram is one of the few Bengaluru localities with a working metro and a mainline railway station side by side. The elevated Purple Line station stands beside Krishnarajapuram railway station, which answers the frequent search about getting from one to the other; the Purple Line has run end to end since the KR Puram–Baiyappanahalli gap opened on 9 October 2023 (Wikipedia, accessed 20 October 2026). Benniganahalli, the next Purple Line station west, is also open.
The Blue Line will add two directions. Southward, the Silk Board–KR Puram (Phase 2A) stretch along the ORR is targeted for May 2027, and BMRCL aims to begin trial runs between Byappanahalli depot, KR Puram and Marathahalli by 15 November 2026 (NativePlanet, 16 October 2026). Urban Acres reported that two trains had been delivered for these trials (Urban Acres, 17 October 2026). Northward, Kasturi Nagara station is under construction on the KR Puram–Hebbal stretch (Wikipedia, accessed 20 October 2026). These are targets; Blue Line dates have moved before.
For the common 'KR Puram to Whitefield distance' search, none of our sources quotes a single figure, and it depends on which part of Whitefield you mean. The Purple Line connects the two today, and NoBroker lists ITPL, Bagmane Tech Park and Cessna Business Park among the work hubs residents commute to (NoBroker, accessed 20 October 2026). Time the drive at peak hour before you commit.
Who it suits
- Commuters to Whitefield, ITPL and the ORR tech parks who want metro access now and a second line from 2027.
- Frequent rail travellers, given the station on the Bengaluru–Chennai line.
- Budget-conscious buyers, since the lower end of portal ranges sits well below neighbouring Whitefield or Indiranagar.
- Less suited to buyers who want a quiet, low-traffic address close to the junction itself.
What to check before you buy
- Exact locality and PIN. Confirm the precise village or layout and PIN on the sale deed and khata, because KR Puram spans four PIN codes (NoBroker, accessed 20 October 2026).
- Drainage. Deccan Herald listed KR Puram GRT Junction, the Kasturi Nagar down ramp and the Hoodi underpass among stretches waterlogged after heavy rain on 5 October 2026 (Deccan Herald, 6 October 2026). Visit after rain and look at the approach road and basement.
- Title on older plots. NoBroker notes that some older pockets near the railway may need closer title checks (accessed 20 October 2026); ask for a 30-year title chain and encumbrance certificate.
- Peak-hour traffic. Residents report congestion at the junction (NoBroker, accessed 20 October 2026); time your commute at 9 am and 6 pm.
- Standard checks: approved plan, occupancy certificate, khata type and Karnataka RERA registration for under-construction homes.
