Banashankari is named for the Banashankari Amma Temple on Kanakapura Road, built in 1915 according to Wikipedia. The locality is large: Wikipedia describes it as spanning from Mysore Road to Kanakapura Road, bordered by Basavanagudi and Hanumanthanagar to the north, Jayanagar and JP Nagar to the east, and Uttarahalli and Kengeri to the south. It is a mature, family-oriented part of south-west Bengaluru, with a bus stand, a Traffic and Transit Management Centre and a Green Line station.

Connectivity

Banashankari station on the Green Line opened on 18 June 2017 (per Wikipedia's Green Line page). The line runs north to Majestic via Jayanagar, R.V. Road (the Yellow Line interchange) and Lalbagh, and south to JP Nagar, Yelachenahalli, Konanakunte Cross, Doddakallasandra, Vajarahalli, Thalaghattapura and Silk Institute. The Yellow Line from R.V. Road to Bommasandra, which opened in August 2025, provides a connection to the Silk Board and Electronic City side. The Pink Line's first elevated section (Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere), not yet open as of 6 October 2026, runs on the Bannerghatta Road side and does not directly serve Banashankari.

Healthcare, schools and daily life

Sagar Apollo Hospital has a unit at Shavige Malleshwara Hills, DSI, Banashankari. BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals is on Uttarahalli Main Road to the south. The locality's mix of PIN codes, including 560026, 560050, 560060, 560061, 560062, 560070, 560078, 560085 and 560098 (per Wikipedia), reflects its size, so facilities vary a lot between stages and sub-areas. Always check the specific address rather than assuming the name 'Banashankari' means the same thing everywhere.

Housing stock and projects

The older stages are low-rise apartments and independent houses, many of them rebuilt. New supply is concentrated off Kanakapura Road and on larger parcels. Two projects are listed on Property Point.

  • Vaishnavi Krishna Brindavan, Banashankari: 3 and 4 BHK apartments at ₹3.5-4.8 crore, a new launch with possession shown as June 2030 (per the Property Point catalogue). This is a premium-priced offering, so compare it carefully with ready alternatives.
  • Prestige Primrose Hills, Banashankari off Kanakapura Road (Talaghattapura): ready to move, 1 and 2 BHK apartments at ₹73 lakh-₹1.5 crore (per the catalogue). The Thalaghattapura Green Line station is close by on the map; check the walking route.

Prices

Homebazaar's May 2026 table lists Banashankari at about ₹13,100 per sq ft (indicative asking rate, undated period), against Uttarahalli at ₹13,050 and Kengeri at ₹7,600 in the same table. That indicates how steeply prices fall as you move south-west along Mysore Road. ANAROCK's Q2 2026 citywide quoted average is ₹9,450 per sq ft, and South Bengaluru was the only zone in its report to show sales growth both quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year. Banashankari is not named as a separate micro-market in that report, so treat the locality rate as a guide rather than a benchmark.

Pros

  • A direct Green Line link to Majestic, with a Yellow Line interchange at R.V. Road.
  • A large, settled neighbourhood with temples, schools, hospitals and markets.
  • A range of ticket sizes, from a sub-₹1 crore ready 1 BHK to premium new launches.

Cons and risks

  • Traffic at the Banashankari junction and along Kanakapura Road and Outer Ring Road is heavy at peak hours.
  • Premium new-launch pricing (₹3.5 crore plus) leaves less cushion if the market softens.
  • Older houses require khata, plan and conversion checks; B-khata conversion windows have been time-limited (per Citizennest).
  • The locality is huge and uneven, so rates and amenities vary a lot between stages.

Who it suits, and our verdict

Banashankari suits families who want a south-west address with Green Line access and an established social infrastructure, and who work in Jayanagar, the CBD or on the Green Line. Our view: pick the sub-area and project by the walk to the station and the school run, not by the locality name.
