Updated 23 October 2026. We re-read Deccan Herald's report of 22 October. Station lists are in Namma Metro Phase 3 Stations List: All 31 Stations (2026), and the 16 October land notice is in Namma Metro Phase 3 Land Acquisition: The 16 Oct 2026 Notice. This piece covers only the road redesign and the areas it touches.
What changed on the Orange Line?
The state had redesigned Phase 3 as an end-to-end double-decker corridor, with a road deck under the metro. That plan is now shelved after the Centre declined to approve it, and the project has returned close to its original approach of junction-level fixes (Deccan Herald, 22 October 2026).
- Corridor 1: 32.15 km from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura along the western Outer Ring Road, with 22 stations (Deccan Herald).
- Corridor 2: 12.50 km from Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi Road (Deccan Herald).
- Funding: JICA; BMRCL will float civil tenders once JICA concurs (Deccan Herald).
Where will the four flyovers and the short tunnel be?
- Sarakki signal: a 1.36-km flyover (Deccan Herald, 22 October 2026). Nearby areas: JP Nagar and Banashankari.
- Kamakya, Ittamadu and Hosakerehalli junctions: one 1.56-km flyover covering all three (Deccan Herald). Nearby areas: Banashankari 3rd Stage and the Outer Ring Road west towards Nagarbhavi.
- Sumanahalli, Magadi Road: a flyover of about 600 metres (Deccan Herald).
- Muthyalanagar: a flyover parallel to the existing narrow railway overbridge (Deccan Herald).
- Goraguntepalya: a short tunnel of about 2 km. BMRCL dropped an elevated road across Tumakuru Road as technically unfeasible, and says the Chief Minister has asked it to explore signal-free movement at Goraguntepalya (Deccan Herald).
- Kadabagere to Herohalli, Magadi Road: a 4-km elevated road (Deccan Herald).
Which areas does this affect?
The western Outer Ring Road and Magadi Road are where both the metro and the junction works will be built. During construction expect barricading and diversions near the named junctions; after completion, the flyovers aim to remove signal stops that slow the ORR today.
- JP Nagar and Banashankari (Sarakki, Kamakya, Ittamadu): Jp Nagar, Bangalore and Banashankari, Bangalore
- Nagarbhavi and the western ORR (Hosakerehalli and beyond): Nagarbhavi, Bangalore
- Vijayanagar and Rajajinagar, near the Magadi Road corridor's city end at Hosahalli: Vijayanagar, Bangalore and Rajajinagar, Bangalore
- Yeshwanthpur and Goraguntepalya on Tumakuru Road: Yeshwanthpur, Bangalore
- Kengeri and the western edge, for the Kadabagere end: Kengeri, Bangalore
What is still unknown?
- Tender dates for the civil works, which depend on JICA's concurrence (Deccan Herald).
- A revised completion date. Deccan Herald says the project is already two years behind schedule; no new target was given.
- The Goraguntepalya signal-free solution, which BMRCL says will be worked out later (Deccan Herald).
- Exact land needed for the flyovers and tunnel ramps; check notices before buying close to a named junction.
What it means for a buyer on the western ORR or Magadi Road
- The metro is still the main value driver; the road decks were a secondary benefit. Dropping the double-decker does not remove the metro line.
- Homes right on a named junction face the longest disruption. Ask the developer how access will work during construction and whether any land has been notified.
- Value a home on today's commute. With tenders not yet floated, metro service on these corridors is several years away.
- Check the 16 October land notice for survey numbers near your site: Namma Metro Phase 3 Land Acquisition: The 16 Oct 2026 Notice.
