Updated 27 October 2026. We read the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) release as reported, and the coverage from the inspection. This guide covers what was ordered, the timeline, and what it changes for people buying or living along Hennur Road, Kothanur, Bagalur and Thanisandra.
What did the minister order on 26 October 2026?
- Scope: road development from the junction to Geddalahalli on Hennur–Bagalur Main Road (ETV Bharat, 26 October 2026; The Bengaluru Live, 26 October 2026).
- Traffic: identify alternative routes and set traffic arrangements for the construction period (The Bengaluru Live).
- Footpaths and drains: widen footpaths where possible, repair damaged slabs and make drains work so the road does not waterlog (The Bengaluru Live; ETV Bharat).
- Junctions: redesign congested junctions to suit local conditions and traffic volumes (The Bengaluru Live).
- Land: speed up pending land acquisition and handover (ETV Bharat).
- Coordination: white-topping must be integrated with widening, drainage and footpaths to avoid repeated digging (ETV Bharat).
- Present: KR Puram MLA Byrathi Basavaraj, GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao and Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner D. S. Ramesh (The Bengaluru Live).
Hennur–Bagalur Road completion date
The target is December 2026 for the white-topping, according to Deccan Herald's summary of the inspection; The Times of India headlined it as a two-month deadline (26 October 2026). Deccan Herald reports that the minister warned the contractor over slow progress, that another construction firm would be engaged to speed things up, and that an extra ₹6 crore has been sought to extend the work by 600 m (Deccan Herald, 26 October 2026, summary). Its headline describes 18 months of delays.
Treat December as a target, not a promise. The same inspection found incomplete side drains, missing footpath slabs, potholes and dust (Deccan Herald, summary), and land handover is still pending on parts of the road (ETV Bharat). Earlier October coverage described the road as 'stuck in a rut' (Deccan Herald, 13 October 2026, headline) and the local MLA inspected the delayed work on 23 October (Deccan Herald, headline).
Will Hennur Road get an elevated corridor or flyover?
Possibly, but not soon. The Hindu's headline says the road may be made signal-free or get an elevated corridor after a feasibility study (26 October 2026). Deccan Herald reports the minister said an earlier survey's traffic data did not justify a flyover and a fresh survey would be considered (summary). No study date, alignment, cost or agency has been published.
For a buyer this matters in two ways. First, any elevated structure means another construction period on the same road after the white-topping ends. Second, a signal-free road would mostly help through-traffic to Bagalur and the airport side; homes that front the road directly could see more noise and less access, depending on design. Neither can be judged until a design is public.
What about metro access near Hennur Road?
Phase 2B of the Blue Line runs from KR Puram towards the airport through Horamavu, HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar, HBR Layout and Nagawara (Wikipedia, Blue Line). Those stations sit at the southern end of Hennur Road. On the KR Puram–Kempapura section, piling is complete, piers are 73% done and track laying has not started; the state's target is early 2028 for Hebbal–KR Puram (GBA and BMRCL releases, 22 October 2026, via NammaWard). Further north, along Bagalur Road, there is no metro line under construction.
What does it mean for homes on Hennur–Bagalur Road?
- Commute: expect construction disruption at least until December 2026, and longer if the extra 600 m and land handover slip. Plan site visits at peak hour to see the real drive.
- Prices: ANAROCK's nearest tracked micro-market, Thanisandra Main Road, averaged ₹10,550 per sq ft base in Q3 2026, up 2% in the quarter (ANAROCK Bengaluru Q3 2026). North Bengaluru supplied 46% of the city's launches that quarter, so buyers have choice.
- Bagalur launches: ANAROCK lists Bhartiya Garden Hill Phase I & II at Bagaluru, 1,554 units at ₹11,500 per sq ft, among Q3's key launches (ANAROCK). Compare such quotes against what the road delivers on completion, not on announcement.
- Frontage: if you buy on the main road, ask the developer for the approved road-widening line and whether any setback land has been surrendered. A future elevated corridor could need more width at junctions.
- Drainage: the minister specifically ordered drain repair to prevent waterlogging. Ask residents of nearby societies how the road behaved in this year's monsoon.
