Updated 30 October 2026. None of the airport line is open. Reports conflict, so below we show each date, its date of publication and exactly which stretch it covers.
Airport metro opening date: what each report says
Our reading: September 2027 is the earliest date in circulation for Hebbal to KIA, and it is not confirmed. The November 2027 and March 2028 dates do not fit neatly together, and we found no BMRCL notice that settles it. If the section opens alone, it would run Hebbal to the airport without a link to the rest of the city's lines until KR Puram to Hebbal is ready, and we found no official word on whether BMRCL will open it that way.
- 22 October 2026, Deccan Herald (as read by us on 23 October): the 38.44 km KR Puram to Hebbal to airport stretch, operations promised by November 2027. This is the newest statement we found.
- 9 October 2026, Channel IAM: Hebbal to KIA targeted for September 2027; KR Pura to Hebbal likely December 2027 to March 2028; full line March 2028. No official is named for these dates.
- 24 August 2026, Metro Rail News: airport section September or October 2027, replacing the earlier June 2027 date, after a review by Minister Krishna Byre Gowda; full line March 2028.
- 20 August 2026, Deccan Herald (as read by us on 17 October): Hebbal to airport unlikely before September 2027. It said trial runs and commissioning take at least six months after civil work.
What is holding up the Hebbal to airport line?
- Hebbal: construction is a main bottleneck, with clearances needed along the Outer Ring Road in the Nagawara to Hebbal area (Metro Rail News, 24 August 2026).
- Yelahanka IAF to airport terminal: about 80% complete in August, with more time sought to March 2027 (Deccan Herald, 20 August 2026, as read by us on 17 October).
- Hebbal to Kasturi Nagar: officials cited Cauvery pipelines and underground drainage lines, mainly between Veerannapalya and Hebbal (Deccan Herald, 22 October 2026, as read by us on 23 October).
- Construction World said on 28 October 2026 that the section is behind schedule and the minister directed officials to speed up.
Hebbal to airport metro stations
Heading north from Hebbala: Kodigehalli, Jakkur Cross, Yelahanka, Bagaluru Cross, Doddajala, Airport City and KIAL Terminals (Wikipedia, as listed in our station guide). KIAL Terminals is underground and Airport City is at grade. All 29 stations: Airport Metro Line Bangalore: 29 Stations, Oct 2026 Status
When can you ride from Silk Board or MG Road to the airport?
From Silk Board, only when the full Blue Line runs, which is targeted for March 2028. From MG Road, you would take the Pink Line to Nagawara and change to the Blue Line. That needs the Pink Line underground (target March 2027) and the KR Puram to Hebbal section, which includes Nagawara. Our arithmetic from those dates: do not count on either route before the KR Puram to Hebbal section is running.
What should buyers near Yelahanka and Devanahalli do?
- Price the home on today's road commute. Add the metro as an upside, not a certainty.
- Ask how far the actual station entrance is, not the 'metro corridor'.
- A builder's brochure date is not a BMRCL date. Check the newest dated news report yourself.
