Updated 19 October 2026. We re-opened the Tribune, Nativeplanet, Swarajya and News24 reports on 19 October. Current coverage stops at the five interchanges. This article adds the fuller DPR-stage station list, the approval timeline, the funding split, why the length and cost figures differ, and what a buyer should and should not read into a line that is still on paper.
Is the Sector 56-Panchgaon metro approved?
Partly. The HMRTC board approved the detailed project report (DPR) in December 2024 (News24, 17 December 2024). RITES then finalised the DPR, and the final version was received on 16 May 2026; the Centre's approval of a 10% grant on project cost is recorded in the minutes of HMRTC's 65th board meeting on 22 June (Swarajya, 1 July 2026). In October 2026 the corridor was described as nearing final approval (The Tribune, 8 October 2026).
What is still missing is the final sanction that allows tenders and construction. Until that is notified, treat every station, date and cost as provisional.
Approval timeline so far
- December 2024: HMRTC board approves the DPR for a roughly 36-km, 28-station route (News24, 17 December 2024).
- 7 January 2026: GMDA proposes Sector 56 as a multi-modal hub where Rapid Metro, this line, the planned Sector 5 line and the Gurugram-Faridabad RRTS would meet; the proposal is to be examined further (Swarajya, 8 January 2026).
- 16 May 2026: final RITES DPR received (Swarajya, 1 July 2026).
- 22 June 2026: 65th HMRTC board minutes record the Centre's 10% grant (Swarajya, 1 July 2026).
- 8 October 2026: 66th HMRTC board meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi; line 'nearing the final stages of approval' (The Tribune, 8 October 2026).
- 13 October 2026: DPR reported as still being finalised, with five interchanges and cost above ₹10,428 crore (Nativeplanet, 13 October 2026).
Route and stations: what has been reported
No final station list has been published. The list below combines the stations named when the board approved the DPR in December 2024 with later reports. News24 itself flagged that several names came from media reports, so expect changes.
- Start and interchanges: Sector 56 (Rapid Metro), with a spur near Sector 56 joining the existing Rapid Metro (Swarajya, 1 July 2026).
- Golf Course Road and GCER: Ghata village, Sectors 61, 62 and 66, and Nirvana Country (News24, 17 December 2024).
- Vatika Chowk (interchange), then SPR: Sectors 69, 70 and 75 (News24; Nativeplanet).
- Dwarka Expressway end: Sectors 36A, 84, 85, 86, 88, 89, 90 and 91 (News24, 17 December 2024).
- Kherki Daula (interchange, near the Dwarka Expressway cloverleaf) and Global City (Nativeplanet; Swarajya).
- Kankrola village, then Manesar sectors M-8, M-9, M-14 and M-15 (News24, 17 December 2024).
- IMT Manesar (interchange, also named as Manesar HORC) (Nativeplanet; News24).
- Panchgaon sectors P-4, P-5 and P-7, ending at Panchgaon (interchange) (News24; Nativeplanet).
Why the length and cost figures don't match
- Length: 35.25 km in The Tribune (8 October 2026); 36 km in Nativeplanet (13 October 2026) and Swarajya (1 July 2026). The rounder figure is likely an approximation of the same alignment.
- Cost: 'about ₹10,000 crore' in Swarajya (1 July 2026) and 'above ₹10,428 crore' in Nativeplanet (13 October 2026). The later figure is the most recent we found; the final sanctioned cost may differ again.
- Funding: the Centre gives a 10% grant, Haryana funds 20%, HSIIDC has committed ₹1,500 crore and the rest is to be borrowed (Swarajya, 1 July 2026).
What kind of metro will it be?
It is planned as a medium-capacity system with a design speed of 90 kmph and CBTC (communication-based train control) signalling. It is meant to link with Rapid Metro, the planned RRTS and the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC), and with NH-48, SPR, Dwarka Expressway and the KMP Expressway (Nativeplanet, 13 October 2026). The Tribune adds that it is designed to integrate with the Namo Bharat regional network.
For context on demand, Rapid Metro carried 88.81 lakh passengers in April-August 2026, up 11.62% from 79.57 lakh a year earlier, and its operating revenue rose to ₹18.60 crore from ₹16.66 crore (The Tribune, 8 October 2026).
Don't confuse it with Metro Phase 2
Gurugram has a separate metro project that is much further along. Gurugram Metro Rail floated a tender of about ₹1,662 crore for the Phase 2 priority corridor between Sector 9 and DLF Cyber Hub, about 14.2 km with 13 stations, World Bank-financed, with bids due between 9 and 18 November and a 30-month completion period (Construction World, 9 October 2026). That is a different line in old Gurgaon. What it means for home buyers on GCER, SPR and Dwarka Expressway
If the line is built, sectors along GCER, SPR and the southern Dwarka Expressway would get a direct rail link to Rapid Metro at Sector 56 and to Manesar's job base. That is a real long-term convenience. But a metro that is not sanctioned has no construction date, and Indian metro projects commonly take several years from sanction to opening. Buy for what the location offers today, and treat the metro as a possible later benefit rather than part of the price you pay.
- Ask the seller which station is proposed nearest to the project, and check it against the published DPR once it is public.
- Discount brochure claims of 'metro at your doorstep' until a station location is final.
- Check today's road commute to your office at peak hour; that is what you will live with for years.
