Buyers in Gurgaon hear about the metro constantly, but the reality is a mix of an existing Rapid Metro loop, a new corridor under early construction and several proposals. This guide separates the three, using official-source news reports and dated figures, and says plainly where reports disagree.
What runs today
The existing Rapid Metro runs largely along Golf Course Road and Golf Course Extension Road, with Sector 55-56 as its southern terminus and a Sikanderpur interchange with the Delhi Metro Yellow Line (Square Yards, 14 August 2026). Frequency is every five to seven minutes through most of the day. It runs through the Cyber City and Golf Course Road belt; check the nearest station for any specific address.
The new corridor: scope and cost
The Millennium City Centre-Cyber City project is being implemented by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL). Indian Infrastructure reports it as a 30.5 km route from Millennium City Centre to Udyog Vihar Phase 5, merging with the Rapid Metro at Moulsari Avenue near Cyber City, with spurs to the Dwarka Expressway and Gurugram railway station. Other reports quote 28.5 km, which appears to exclude the added railway-station spur. The Tribune reports a 28.5 km corridor with 35 three-coach trains.
Cost has moved. Swarajya reports the original cost at ₹5,452.72 crore. The Tribune says it now exceeds ₹8,000 crore, with delays adding over ₹3,000 crore. On 19 May 2026 the Haryana government approved a revised cost of ₹10,266 crore (Rs 102.66 billion), per Indian Infrastructure, including a 1.8 km spur from Sector 5 to Gurugram railway station.
Where construction stands
- First pile cast on 12 February 2026 in Sector 45 (Indian Infrastructure).
- Initial work from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 involves about 3,000 piles and around 750 pillars (Indian Infrastructure).
- Physical progress was 3.3% as of June 2026 (UNI).
- Civil tenders had been finalised for about 15 km, with the remaining 13 km to follow, according to the Tribune.
- Phase 2 (Sector 9 to Cyber City): land was identified in Sectors 7, 4, 5, 3, Ashok Vihar, Bajghera, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar and Sector 23A, with a tender expected by March 2026 (Indian Infrastructure, 27 January 2026). A depot of about 45 acres is planned in Sector 33.
Which sectors and stations
Swarajya lists these names along the corridor: Subhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phases 4-6, Basai Village, Sector 5, Sector 3, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar and Sector 101, with Millennium City Centre and Cyber City as connection points and 27 stations in all. Interchange stations are planned at Millennium City Centre (Yellow Line), Subhash Chowk, Sector 5, Hero Honda Chowk and DLF Cyber City (Swarajya, 29 July 2026). Double-decker stretches are proposed near Krishna Chowk and Sector 21.
In plain terms, localities such as Palam Vihar, Sector 21, Udyog Vihar, Sector 5 and Subhash Chowk are the ones the new line is designed to serve. Exact station locations may change, so confirm against the latest alignment before relying on a walking distance.
The timeline and why to be cautious
The Tribune gives a target completion of December 2028. Other coverage points to 2029. One report says the 2023 approval assumed a four-year schedule, and the added spur and delays have pushed it out. At 3.3% progress in mid-2026, any date is a target, not a promise. Our advice: treat the line as a multi-year benefit and avoid paying today for a service that will not run for some time.
Extensions and proposals
- Sector 56 to Panchgaon: a proposed 36 km line with 28 elevated stations serving Nirvana Country, Vatika Chowk, Kherki Daula, Global City and Manesar. The DPR by RITES was submitted to the state on 16 May 2026, pending approval, at about ₹10,000 crore (Swarajya).
- Sector 56 hub: GMDA's CEO proposed on 7 January 2026 that Sector 56 become a multi-modal hub where the Rapid Metro, the Panchgaon line and the planned Sector 5 line converge (Swarajya, 8 January 2026).
- Dwarka Expressway: the new corridor includes a 1.85 km spur at the Basai village end towards the Dwarka Expressway (Swarajya). For expressway property context see our Dwarka Expressway guide.
What this means for buyers
- Palam Vihar and other west-Gurgaon pockets stand to gain, but not before the second phase is built.
- Do not assume resale values will rise when stations are announced; price paths depend on supply, demand and interest rates as much as transit.
- Check any plot or floor against the metro alignment and land acquisition notices; GMRL has issued public notices to acquire private land (Swarajya).
- For ready homes near the Rapid Metro, confirm the walking route and the station distance yourself.
