When will the Ejipura flyover open?
Deccan Herald reported on 5 October 2026 that the October-end deadline had effectively passed and that the GBA had set December-end as the new target. The paper said the December target covers only the elevated stretch between Ejipura and Kendriya Sadan junction. Urban Acres, on 9 October, quoted officials saying the main structure is expected to carry traffic by December-end, with some associated works continuing after that.
The flyover's dates have moved many times. Here is the record from the reports we checked:
- Original completion date: November 2019 (Deccan Herald).
- February 2026: GBA chief commissioner said work must finish by July 2026 (The News Minute).
- Bengaluru South City Corporation budget: September 2026 (The News Minute).
- May 2026: chief engineer said it would open by end-October 2026 (Urban Acres).
- October 2026: internal target moved to December-end 2026 for the main deck; Sarjapur Road ramps in 2027 (Deccan Herald).
Ejipura flyover route and length
The News Minute describes it as a 2.38 km flyover from Kendriya Sadan in Koramangala, running past Sony World junction and merging onto the Intermediate Ring Road towards Domlur and Indiranagar. It was planned to clear a chain of signals between Hosur Road and Ejipura that had been a bottleneck since at least the mid-2000s.
Urban Acres reports ramps towards Indiranagar and Madiwala, plus additional up-ramps from Sarjapur Road and St John's Hospital Road. The Sarjapur Road ramps, near the Koramangala water tank, are the ones that need new land, according to Deccan Herald.
How much work is left?
As of 9 October 2026, Urban Acres put the project at about 80% complete. Casting of precast segments was finished, ramp work was finished, crash barriers were being installed, and seven spans were still to be placed. Deccan Herald said work slowed in recent months because of a shortage of stone aggregates.
The land near St John's Hospital has been the hardest part. Work on that section began in February 2026 after talks with the hospital. Urban Acres reports that the hospital agreed, but the GBA had not yet issued the transferable development rights (TDR) owed for the land, and officials said that part could take another year. In June 2026 Deccan Herald reported that 590 sq m of St John's Medical College land was needed to widen the service road at Kendriya Sadan junction, with more land needed at St John's signal for the Sarjapur up-ramp.
Why has the Ejipura flyover taken almost 10 years?
Construction started in 2017. By March 2027 it will have been under construction for 10 years, Deccan Herald notes. The main reasons reported:
- Contractor failure: the first contractor reached 42.8% physical progress before the contract was cancelled in March 2022 (Urban Acres).
- Re-tendering: the state cabinet cleared a new contractor in July-August 2023, and the agreement was signed on 15 November 2023 (Deccan Herald).
- Land: hospital and private land at St John's and Sarjapur Road needed acquisition or TDR compensation.
- Materials and labour: a stone aggregate shortage slowed work in 2026.
Will the flyover fix Koramangala traffic?
It should cut signal waits for through traffic between Hosur Road and the Intermediate Ring Road. It will not remove local traffic in Koramangala, and partial opening without the Sarjapur Road ramps means Sarjapur-bound traffic still uses the roads below until 2027.
Traffic also moves on. In June 2026 B-SMILE argued that once Ejipura opens it will push more traffic into Indiranagar, which is its stated reason for the proposed Indiranagar elevated corridor (The Federal). That corridor is now facing protests; see Bengaluru Elevated Corridors 2026: 13 Projects and Tolls.
What it means if you are buying in Koramangala or Ejipura
Koramangala is a mature, land-scarce locality, so prices there are driven by location and supply more than by one flyover. The practical effects are local:
- Homes on the flyover's service road: expect dust and lane closures until the ramps are done in 2027. Visit at peak hour before you commit.
- Homes off the main road in the inner blocks: the opening should shorten trips towards Domlur and Indiranagar with little downside.
- Rentals: tenants who work on the Intermediate Ring Road or in Indiranagar may value easier access once the deck opens.
- Do not pay a premium today for an opening that has already missed several deadlines.
What to watch over the next six months
A flyover that is 80% built can still lose months at the end. These are the milestones that tell you the December target is real, and the ones that matter for homes near the ramps.
- All seven remaining spans placed and the deck surfaced. Until then, December is a hope, not a plan.
- A load test and a formal opening notice from the GBA or Bengaluru South City Corporation.
- Traffic police diversion notices around Sony World junction and Kendriya Sadan, which usually come just before a structure opens.
- The TDR for the St John's land being issued. Without it, the Sarjapur-side up-ramp cannot be finished.
- Fresh land acquisition notices near the Koramangala water tank for the Sarjapur Road ramps. If you are buying a home on that stretch, ask the seller or society whether any part of the plot or frontage is affected.
- The service road widening at Kendriya Sadan. A wider service road eases daily access for buildings on the flyover's edge even before the deck opens.
Buying next to a flyover under construction: a checklist
The same checks apply to any home beside an unfinished flyover, in Koramangala or elsewhere.
- Visit twice: once on a weekday at 9 am and once at 7 pm. Note how long it takes to get out of the gate and onto the main road.
- Check which floor and which face of the building you are buying. Units facing the deck at the same height get the most noise and the least privacy.
- Ask the society about dust, water stagnation and power cuts linked to the work, and whether any compensation or TDR has been offered for frontage.
- For a resale flat, check the title and the latest khata for any notice of road widening. For a new project, read its RERA page for approvals and the sanctioned plan.
- If you are renting out the flat, assume a lower rent until the ramps and service roads are complete.
