ECR starts at Thiruvanmiyur and runs south past Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Neelankarai, Injambakkam, Panaiyur, Uthandi, Muttukadu and Kovalam towards Mahabalipuram. Inside the city it is a regular road up to Uthandi, where the tolled section begins.
